The construction of Yermarus Super Thermal Plant in Raichur has been taken up by Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL). Also, 1,200 acres of land has been acquired for the 2×800 MW coal-based thermal power project in Chhattisgarh.

The seminar, which discussed the power planning and generation programme in Karnataka, threw light on the fact that the State lags behind by 13.3 per cent of supply deficiency during peak demand.

At present, the State requires close to 8,000 MW of power and the KPCL is able to generate only 6,000 MW. KPCL is hopeful that by the end of 2017, the State will not face any shortage of electricity. The State has contributed 80,796 MW of electricity to the nationwide 1,64,456 MW  of installed capacity of electricity.
