Green initiative for clean environs

Bangalore, Oct 10, DHNS:

As many as 200 people participated in tree plantation and green initiatives in the City.

The Indian Youth Climate Network (IYCN) along with the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL), took to the streets to plant trees and spread the message of clean environment at Parappana Agrahara and HSR Layout.

At Parappana Agrahara village, 50 trees were planted under the aegis of the local corporator, the regional forest Department as well as the BBMP. Neem, Tabebuia Rosea, Mahogany and Pongamia were planted to aid groundwater recharge. Each tree was appointed to the care of a local resident and named after the home-owner who has taken responsibility of protecting and watering it. Tree plantation was also underway at HSR Layout with as many as 54 saplings  planted at the local park.

A cycle rally was also organised on the ‘auspicious’ occasion of 10-10-10. Nearly 80 cyclists from various green organisations including the Go Green, Go Cycling, IYCN and the Art of Cycling participated. The rally was held on Sunday morning from M G Road to Jayanagar 4th Block for over two hours.
