When Kishore Kumar insisted on bullockcart ride

Last Updated 12 October 2010, 12:21 IST

The actor-singer once left the organisers of an award function in a fix by insisting on a bullock-cart ride till the venue. "In 1985, Madhya Pradesh government was honouring him with Lata Mangeshkar award. But Kishore left the organisers scratching their heads by insisting on a ride to the venue in a bullock-cart," recalls film critic Sriram Tamrakar.

Kishore's wish could not be fulfilled as the officials feared that the crowd will go berserk to get a glimpse of the singer. But Kishore being Kishore, could not help sharing the organisers helplessness to his fans. The singer told the audience that he wanted to attend the award ceremony in a "bullock power car" but had to do with a "horse power car".

Born on August 4, 1929, in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh, Kishore left his birthplace for a career in Mumbai film industry but his heart always remained there.
During his last days, the singer wanted to return to Khandwa, a wish which remained unfulfilled with his death on October 13, 1987.
