In his petition, Farooq has challenged the speaker K G Bopaiah’s decision to give a clean chit to Sampangi, who was trapped red- handed while accepting a bribe of Rs five lakh. The clean chit was given following the report submitted by a seven-member committee, which suggested that the bribery scandal be treated as a closed matter. Farooq, the man, who helped Lokayukta Police trap Sampangi submitted that he was receiving threat calls and had received any security from the police and the Lokayukta.

“Unable to handle harassment by Sampangi, I have also made a representation to the President of India, seeking permission for euthanasia for my family members and myself,” said Farooq. He also submitted that the MLA has violated the bail conditions, as he has been pressurising the witness to change their statement."Despite several complaints, the police have failed to respond. Applications seeking cancellation of his bail by the Lokayukta has also not been considered,” he stated in his plea.

Justice Mohan Shantanagoudar, who heard the matter has ordered emergent notice to the Speaker, Karnataka Legislative Assembly, Karnataka Lokayukta and Y Sampangi.
