Kat's flying high

Last Updated 29 June 2009, 13:50 IST

If anyone looked at her career graph, her meteoric rise can be the envy of all actresses. From her blink and miss debut in Boom five years back, she has soared to become one of the highest pai

d actresses in the industry and is now seen in one of the biggest banners, Yash Raj’s New York.

Dressed in a demure zebra-printed dress, Katrina is at ease with her fans and the media. The actress, who has been voted as the sexiest Asian woman and is also the most searched person on Google, says, “I would never say that adulation gets to me, this is what I worked for.”

“I want not just people in the cities to know me but also those from places like Nagpur and Bhopal to know me. And that’s what really counts.”

About her upcoming release New York, Katrina says, “It’s closest to my heart because it is the first film that I have been able to be ‘myself’. I’ve barely used any make-up, and am not dressed in high heels and short skirts.I even weigh three-four kilos more than usual.”

About being in shape, she says, “While shooting in New York, my co-stars would go gymming everyday but I would happily bunk and go eat. When they came back, I would drag them to see chick flicks. We went for a movie called All About Women and not surprisingly, there were only men in the theatre.”

When asked how the environment on the sets of New York was, “We were constantly fighting,” she says mischievously, “didn’t you see John’s foot, I did that to him (referring to John’s foot fracture). If he doesn’t behave, it will be the other foot’s turn.”
Katrina feels she would make a brilliant action star. “I would train so well for it that you’ll see a new avatar of me.”

That’s totally contrary to being the Indian Barbie. “It’s a huge honour,
I grew up with Barbie dolls, I have six sisters and we’ve fought over our fair share of Barbies. It is also nice to know that I am in the same league as Beyoncé Knowles and Kate Winslet, who have lent their face to the brand,” she says.

About her upcoming
films, Katrina’s very excited. “The first is Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Upen Patel, which as the
title suggests is a romantic film.”

“The next is De Dana Dan, a comedy film directed by Priyadarshan co-starring Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty and finally Raajniti, where I star with a host of stars, including Ajay Devgan, Ranbir Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Manoj Bajpai and Naseeruddin Shah. I play a spoilt brat in the film, it’s a very complex character in the backdrop of Indian politics,” she says.

What about Hollywood? “If they come knocking at my door, I am not going to say no, but I am, for sure, not going to knock on theirs.”

Moving away from films, Katrina, in her free time, loves swimming and she has a sweet tooth. “I love sweets, I can probably polish off a whole box of chocolate, all by myself.”
Katrina turns 25 on July 16, so any grand birthday plans?

“Not shopping, am not into shopping at all. If you looked at my sisters’ and my wardrobe, you’d probably think they are better off than me. They are always so much better dressed than I am. I would probably fly to London to be with my family for my birthday.”
