Last Updated 03 November 2010, 18:31 IST

Ministers Janardhana Reddy, Karunakara Reddy and Sriramulu were conspicuous by their absence. Senior party leader Ananth Kumar also stayed away, while only 58 MLAs and 18 MLCs took part in the day-long deliberation. Only four Lok Sabha members were present at the meeting. The berth-seekers too chose to skip the meeting.

Party spokesperson C T Ravi told reporters that of the total 538 members, 438 attended the meeting.

“No significance need to be given for the absence of a few ministers and MLAs. Our MLAs are busy in holding Bhagyalakshmi programmes in their constituencies. A few ministers are busy with their work. It should not be interpreted otherwise,” he said.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa had a word to his party colleagues and workers to keep their self confidence and morale up.

In his address, he advised the executive council members to chant five mantras: “I am the best”, “I  can do it”, “God is always with me”, “ I am a winner” and “Today is my day” to emerge successful.
