Tiruvalluvar statue in State, Sarvajna in Tamil Nadu

Bangalore:

It’s going to be give-and-take between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will unveil the Thiruvalluvar statue in Bangalore, while Karnataka will get a suitable place to install a Sarvajna statue in Ainavaram, Chennai.

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, who is in Chennai for medical treatment, met Tamil Nadu CM Karunanidhi, at the latter’s residence on Thursday morning. Yeddyurappa was accompanied by Medical Education Minister Ramachandra Gowda. The meeting lasted for about 40 minutes.

Later, speaking to reporters, Yeddyurappa said that he invited Karunanidhi to Bangalore to unveil the Thiruvallavur statue. The statue had been installed in Ulsoor in 1992; however, some pro-Kannada organisations had opposed the unveiling. The Chief Minister said that Karnataka’s plans to install a statue of Sarvajna was discussed with Karunanidhi. “Tamil Nadu will give us a suitable place for the statue,” he added. The date for Karunanidhi’s visit will be decided after the State Legislature Session, which will begin on July 9.

Yeddyurappa said that the issue of sharing of Cauvery water was not discussed.

However, he stated that he was still for bilateral talks to solve the Hogenakal issue.

Yeddyurappa is said to have explained to Karunanidhi about the paucity of rains in the Cauvery basin, and constraints faced by Karnataka.
