City’s first human-to-human H1N1 transfer
Bangalore, dhns:

The first case of human-to-human transmission of the H1N1 flu virus has been reported in the City, with six members of a family testing positive on Thursday.

A boy and a girl, both related to a family of four who had contracted the virus in the United States, have tested positive.

This makes the two Bangaloreans the first instance of human-to-human transmission of the virus in the City, according to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD) Director Dr Shashidhar Buggi.

The duo’s relatives—a couple and their two children—had arrived in the City from New Jersey on June 25. Subsequently, they had developed symptoms before testing positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, a girl who arrived from San Francisco too tested positive. She was admitted to RGICD, where seven patients are undergoing treatment, to undergo quarantine.

In another development, a 27-year-old man, who arrived from South Korea on June 28, tested positive with H1N1 flu. He was referred to Lakeside Medical Centre and Hospital.

As many as 20 patients visited RGICD, and 15 samples of throat swabs were collected and sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune.

Bangalore has so far reported 24 cases.
