Workplace diversity is key to success: Nasscom to IT Inc

Addressing the Nasscom summit, Senior Director Sucharita Eashwar said member companies today show a great deal of maturity in the way they define policies on diversity and equality at work place.

Despite encouraging 40 per cent out of an estimated 400 million IT work force in the country being women, industry leaders agree that the net has to be cast wider across disability, language, geography, age and other barriers if the 10 million deficit in manpower were to be plugged.

Chairman Harsh Manglik said there are many even amongst women who think diversity initiatives are nothing but ‘favours’, which successful women do not require.

“We as an industry body, besides spreading diversity and gender equality amongst our industry, will have to look at the broader society and help people from diverse backgrounds fulfil their aspirations,” he added.

IBM bags award

IBM India has won the Nasscom for Excellence in Gender Inclusivity in both Best IT services & product and Best BPO company categories.

The awards honour companies in IT-ITeS industry which have practices that promote gender empowerment and women leadership development.
