'Nothing wrong in Lingayat swamis coming out in CM's support'

Bangalore, Nov23, PTI:

Karnataka Excise Minister M P Renukacharya today said there was nothing wrong in Lingayat mutts coming out in support of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa who belongs to the community.

"There is nothing wrong in Lingayat mutts supporting the continuance of Yeddyurappa" (as Chief Minister),Renukacharya told reporters here.

"Yeddyurappa has done good work.Yeddyurappa has doled out money to all mutts in the state. What is wrong in swamis supporting him", Renukacharya, who had led BJP dissidents in their oust-Yeddyurappa campaign earlier and later turned loyalist, said.

"I am not a casteist.I have been elected by all communities in my Honnali constituency", Renukacharaya, who also belongs to the Lingayat community, said, apparently not to antagonise other community members in his turf.

Former Chief Minister and JDS leader H D Kumaraswamy is releasing "fake documents" against Yeddyurappa, he charged, but could not justify his remark when asked to point out which of the documents released over land scams were "fake".

Three seers, belonging to the Lingayat community, had yesterday come RPT come out in support of the beleaguered Yeddyurappa and condemned BJP's reported moves to seek resignation of the Lingayat leader. The seers hail from Northern Karnataka where the Lingayat community is dominant.
