‘Paddy cultivation in doldrums’

Rice is the main crop in the state, which provides fodder to the cattle.
However, owing to the untimely rains, the paddy cultivation is under doldrums, said SKDRDP Agriculture Officer A S Chidanand.
Speaking at System of Rice Intensification(SRI) Bhatha Kshethrotsava organised in the field of farmer Manjunath at Thimmanabailu, he said owing to the untimely rains, the paddy has been infested with diseases. The use of chemicals to check the diseases will affect the yield.
With SRI method of cultivation, farmers can get more yield with less expenditure. Under SRI method, farmers can fetch 40 to 50 quintal rice per acre.
