| 'Dronacharya' Surendra Pal steps into film direction |

After earning accolades for his depiction of Dronacharya in the acclaimed television serial 'Mahabharat' and the devilish character of Kilvish in the much fantacised 'Shaktimaan,' actor Surendra Pal has now stepped into film direction.

 "My film 'Ae Bhaujee Ke Sister' has completed 25 weeks at the cinema halls and has also clinched three awards out of the 11 nominations at the recently concluded Bhojpuri film award function," Pal, who was here to attend a cultural function recently said.
Directing a film, he says, is completely a different ball game than acting and requires in-depth understanding of various subjects.
"My next film is a Bhojpuri film titled 'Saubhagyawati Ganga,' and would be based on social reality."
The actor who has essayed several different roles on TV claims says there is a general decline in the quality of Bhojpuri films.
"I entered into directing to give a new lease of life to the Bhojpuri culture, which is unfortunately associated with item numbers and the poor level of comedy. There was a time when actors like Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan recited dialogues in Bhojpuri. I want that golden period to return," says Pal.
Pal says one reason for the decline of the Bhojpuri films can be attributed to infighting between modern-day actors.
"The trivial politics and conflicts among the Bhojpuri film actors is a growing cause of concern for the industry and is pushing back the industry," says the actor, who was born and brought up in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district.
He also alleges that certain unscrupulous distributors refrain from giving proper reports to the film producers and also disappear after taking the film roll.
"Infighting among the actors, is also a matter of concern. If unchecked this will push back the industry to brink of extinction. And a day will come, when the industry itself becomes a part of history," says the actor.
On being asked why he did not venture into Bollywood, Pal says, "Ever since, I made my debut on television , I did not get enough time for Bollywood."
When asked about the trend of re-telecasting epic serials such as "Mahabharat" and "Ramayan," Pal says, "The new serials have nothing to offer to viewers. In fact the new serials are using almost the same script, which were used in the original serials.
"These serials are nothing but carbon copies of the older versions. Let me tell you that a duplicate Mughal-e-Azam or for that matter 'Sholey' will never click among the audience."
