"My father did consider Khan saab for the role - if his son is anything to go by then I'm sure he would have done a tremendous job," K Asif's son Akbar said in a documentary on the Star Network last night.

The documentary was released as part of the 50th anniversary tribute to the historic film 'Mughal-e-Azam'. Hosted by Shah Rukh himself and produced by his company Red Chillies, the unique Mughal-e-Azam documentary features interviews with Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Hrithik Roshan and Prithviraj Kapoor's great grand children Ranbir and Kareena Kapoor.

The documentary also featured masterpieces by artist M F Husain who was directly inspired by the film to paint 52 priceless works of art. "I wanted Mughal-e-Azam to take a step beyond immortality and that is why I humbly asked the great Husain saab to do the paintings.

"He has worked hard over the period of five years to create superb works of art, which say more about my father's film than any scholar, expert or historian can and that is why they will remain a permanent stamp in history, just like this great documentary," said Akbar.
