'Anushka holds a special place in my heart'

From door to door, he went with his photographs and gave auditions. But not in his wildest dreams did he imagine to bag a lead role in Yash Raj Films’ Band Baaja Baaraat.

“I still pinch myself to know if all this is really happening to me. The role of Bitto was a dream role for me and something I couldn’t refuse. The production house has a huge reputation to live upto but they take care of their actors and pamper them so much that it allows an actor to focus completely on the performance,” Ranveer tells Metrolife.

Interestingly, the actor has been a regular to Bangalore. “My second cousin lives in Bangalore and I come often to visit him. Everytime I am here, I head straight to the Blue Bar and party with my friends. But my most memorable visit was when Aerosmith performed here,” he says.

He says Band Baaja Baaraat is a desi romantic film and he plays the role of a typical Delhi boy who is aimless and spoilt to the core. He finally comes across this girl who is focussed and knows what she wants.

“That’s when he feels it’s better to simply latch onto this girl aur life set hojayegi,” he explains.

But in real life, Ranveer says he is nothing like Bitto. When he graduated out of an acting school in America, Ranveer said he knew exactly what he wanted.

 “I was always interested in acting. Even in school, the kind of feedback I got for my acting in plays was encouraging. But I knew with no ‘filmi’ background, Bollywood would be a far-fetched dream,” he adds.

With an extensive theatre background, Ranveer says he would like to experiment a lot with various kinds of genres. And despite the three-film deal, he has signed with Yash Raj, he says he would not like to stick to only one production house.

“My contract with Yash Raj does not restrict me to sign on other production houses and though offers are pouring in, I want to take things slow as I don’t want to do just any role,” he says.

Ranveer was prepared for a lot of things when he came into the industry including link-ups.  With reports of him and his leading lady Anushka Sharma making the rounds, Ranveer says that he knew it would happen.

“I was expecting the link-up to happen. I mean we both are attractive and got along so well that I knew people would assume we were in a relationship,” he says.

“Anushka is such a wonderful actress and a supportive friend. And despite all the rumours, we still remain friends. Even today, Anushka holds a special place in my heart.”
