He was speaking at a programme organised to plant saplings by Zilla Panchayat, district administration, forest department, advocates association, here at the SNR hospital on Saturday.

It is being felt that development can only be achieved with the destruction of nature. Development is becoming important than its implication on the ecology, which has led to the imbalance in the eco system. This imbalance will pose serious threat to the existence of the human beings and suggested that development and environment conservation should go hand in hand.

Principal district and sessions judge V M Aradhya inaugurated the programme. He said that environment conservation is everyone’s responsibility. Trees are axed in the name of development. Planting saplings is the only way to compensate the loss, he opined.
Kolar division deputy forest conservator K H Nagaraj, it is the nature’s rule that in a geographical area  should be covered by 33.33 pc of forest. In the country there is 23 pc and 19 pc in Kolar, of forest area. Kolar district has just 10 pc of forest area which should be improved.

He said a person should at least plant one sapling in his life. If every one plant sapling at their house, forest area can be drastically increased, he suggested.

Forest department will distribute 22 lakh of saplings which will be planted at schools, colleges, farms. At least 7 lakh saplings are distributed to the farmers. Rs 1.50 has been fixed for each sapling, he said.

Superintendent of police K P Puttaswamy, President of Advocates’ Association A Lakshminarayana, District Legal Services Authority member- secretary B N Lavanya Lata were the chief guest. Social Sub-divisional forest conservator Anjaneya Reddy, TP  executive officer Manjunath were present.
