Last Updated 06 December 2010, 16:35 IST

Hundreds of villagers and leaders of various organisations poured in their woes at the meeting.

Ryot leader, Mahesh charged that the police were giving protection to an owner of a stone quarry company near Deshavalli village despite filing case that the quarrying is being done illegally.  The previous Superintendent of Police had recommended action against owners of several quarries a few days ago following complaints from the public. But no action has been initiated against them.

Another farmer leader Channabasappa accused the cops of supporting illegal sand lifting by collecting the bribe from such sand lifters.

Gulipura Shivakumar demanded cutting of eucalyptus trees being planted from Chikkahole to Srinivasapura village as they were contributing for increase in the number of accidents on that route. Visibility was poor on that particular stretch of road because of eucalyptus trees.

Kempanapura Mahadevaswamy, a villager asked the IGP to stop interference of middlemen and politicians in settling disputes at all police stations.

In every incident, politicians meddle thus denying justice to the victims. District BSP President Arakalawadi Nagendra alleged that atrocities against dalits were on the rise in the district. The police have failed to protect dalits.  The social boycott of dalit families in Ankahalli village of Gundlupet taluk, holds mirror to the miserable failure of the department in giving protection to dalits.

Villagers of Bisalwadi demanded closure of a liquor shop as it was disturbing peace  in their village.

Member of City Municipal Council of Chamarajanagar R P Nanjundaswamy urged for police protection for him as he was facing threat from the CMC commissioner for seeking details of money spent on the establishment of a solid waste disposal unit on the outskirts of the city. He alleged that one of the senior members of CMC who is a close relative of Deputy Superintendent of Police Basavaraju, is working behind the scene in this case. He sought transfer of DySP from the district.

Basavapura Mutturaj, a PG student, complained against East Police Station Sub-Inspector Srikanth for harassing him without giving any protection in a land dispute case.

Public help sought

Inspector General of Police (Southern Range), ASN Murthy opined that co-operation of general public is very important in reducing crimes in the district. Speaking after inaugurating the district-level convention of village patrolling units here, he said that about five to six teams have been constituted in all police station limits to check the incidents of crime. The police and unit members should work in tandem to put an end illegal activities.
