Going ahead with a purpose
Realistic goals
The new year has begun. The youngsters brought in the year with great fervour.
While some partied the night away others went out of town with their family. A handful sat in front of the television set and caught up with the entertaining shows that were shown throughout the night.
The young also got the chance to think about the resolutions they plan to keep this year.
For many, who are in their final year of college, it’s a mixed feeling. Says Prateek Nair, a student, “With only a year left to decide on what I want to do in future, I think I am going to take this year more seriously and start looking for options and get myself sorted before I graduate.”
Many students have also resolved to improve their personal skills. On being asked about his resolution, Gurmeet Ahluwalia says, “This year I want to be punctual when it comes to college attendance and submitting of reports. I generally reach late to college when I make plans to meet my friends. I don’t want to do the same this year.”
Some of the youngsters also expressed their desire to contribute more to the environment. “A bunch of us have decided to recycle as much as we can and not use plastic bags. It will be tough as many shops pack their goods only in plastic bags but if more of us join in, the awareness is bound to spread,” says Rachana, another student.
Shutting down computers instead of keeping them on stand-by mode, and saving water, are there on their must-do list this year.
Youngsters also feel that keeping a resolution is not that tough provided it is realistic. Priyal Bhosal, a student, says that a resolution will only work when one keeps an achievable goal.
“Personally, I don’t bother about resolutions at all since I can never keep them. But this is my final year in college, so I’ve resolved to spend more time with my friends and will try to capture the moments we spend together on camera to treasure them,” she adds.
