<p>“About 68 per cent of the borewells and other water resources in Bangalore city are no longer in use,” Palemar said at the Bhoomi Pooje programme for the UGD project for Ullal Town Municipality, which is being taken up through the Karnataka Water Board, at Ullal on Sunday.<br /><br />“The Government has sanctioned sufficient funds for the construction of UGD for towns in the State. However, the work is not being executed due to many reasons. Litigations of local residents delay the UGD construction work and as a result the project cost too increase,” he said and called upon the people to co-operate with the government to provide UGD system for all towns. <br /><br />Uninterrupted power <br /><br />Talking about the power crisis, Palemar said that he had held a discussion with the Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje. “Majority of the consumers in Dakshina Kannada district pay electricity bills promptly. Hence, I have made a special request to the Minister to provide uninterrupted power supply to consumers in the district,” he added.<br /><br />Sea erosion<br /><br />Mangalore MLA U T Khader said that the documents regarding the ADB project of implementing permanent solution for sea erosion problem has been sent to the State Chief Secretary. The tender process has already begun for the Rs 259 crore project and the work will commence soon in Ullal, he added. <br /><br />Khader said that Ullal town with its beautiful expanse of beaches, historic temples and mosques has the potential to attract tourist across the world. “The Tourism Department should sanction projects to make Ullal a prominent tourism destination in the State,” he urged. <br /><br />Coastal Karnataka Development Authority Chairman B Nagaraj Shetty, Mangalore Urban Development Authority Chairman Dr Madhava Bhandary and Ullal Town Municipality President Bazil D’Souza were present on the occasion.</p>
