‘World Tulu convention at Ujire in December’

A world Tulu convention will be conducted at Ujire under the aegis of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala in the third week of December, said Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade.

Addressing a press conference at Dharmasthala on Saturday, he said the international convention would be of three days.

The programmes of all the three days will be held under three different themes - kode (yesterday), ini (today) and elle (tomorrow).

Seminars, interactions and demonstrations on Tulu language, literature, culture, tradition, customs and beliefs and celebrations will be held during the conference. Besides, it will feature foods and beverages of Tulu style, demonstrations on fairs and festivals, folk arts of Tulunadu. Heggade informed.

Tulu is one of the ‘Panchadravida’ languages, which has been woven into the life of coastal Karnataka. It is rich both historically and culturally and has received recognition from scholars world over, he added.

Heggade said discussions would also be held on the necessity of including Tulu language in the VIII Schedule of the Indian Constitution and introducing Tulu as an optional subject in schools.

Tuluvas residing in various parts of the world will be invited for the conference, he said.
For the smooth organisation of the scheduled convention, various committees have been formed.

Veerendra Heggade is the president of the reception committee, while Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman M Mohan Alva is the general secretary. D Harshendra Kumar, B Yashovarma will be the secretaries.
