House updated on chikungunya, dengue

While Bangalore urban has registered highest number of 298 chikungunya cases, Dharwad district tops the list of number of dengue cases.

Health Minister B Sriramulu informed this to the Legislative Assembly while replying to the question raised by Mangalore Congress MLA U T Khader.

Three people have died due to dengue so far - one in Bangalore and two in Dakshina Kannada.

Total dengue cases reported in Bangalore is 34. The health department is taking all steps to control the spread of chikungunya and dengue, including procuring additional fogging machines, he said.

108 ambulances

Replying to a question on the Arogya Kavacha scheme, the minister said additional 309 ambulances will be inducted under the scheme by November.

Presently, one ambulance is available for every 1.10 lakh population. Once additional ambulances are inducted, an ambulance will be made available for every 50,000 population.
Ever since the launch of the Arogya Kavacha scheme in November 2008, the call centre has received 42 lakh calls for help, and 65,000 lives have been saved through the service, he further said.
