Malur man among stampede victims
Manjunath (30) of Chokkandahalli is among the victims of the stampede at Sabarimala on Friday. He was on a visit to the abode of Ayyappa for the first time, along with his brother-in-law Chennappa, a resident of Medahalli in Bangalore Rural district.
Manjunath had been requesting Chennappa to take him for viewing the ‘Makara Jyothi’ at Sabarimala for many days now. He was, therefore, included in the group of 25 people from Medahalli for the pilgrimage.
On Friday night, they were returning from Pulmedu, after viewing the ‘Makara Jyothi’. When they neared their vehicle, they noticed people running helter-skelter. Chennappa then confirmed that all the 25 members of the group were present. “We pushed Mithun (6), my son, into the jeep. So he was saved. Barely a moment later, we saw Manjunath die in the stampede,” Chennappa said, recollecting the incident.
