As a rock music fan, would you go mad over Sigma 6? Or for that matter The Screaming Abdabs or Tea Set? Quite unlikely. But then, it would be a shocker for a casual music lover to know that these were the names with which the iconic Pink Floyd was known as before they assumed their final name.

This is just one of the little-known facts that are coming to the fore in FOX History & Entertainment channel’s History Rocks III series, which this season is focusing on legends like Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and Queen.

The 16-part series, like the previous two seasons, have on offer the history behind the formation of some of the best-known rock bands, and it is quite obvious that each episode comes replete with large doses of the magical music.

In fact, enthused by the response to the previous two seasons, the channel, in association with Sony Music, has brought out a ten-song album called ‘History Rocks III — The Definitive Classic Rock Collection’, containing songs by the likes of Aerosmith, Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath and Santana.

The series has as its highlight Hendrix’s legendary performance at Woodstock, Queen’s live performance at Wembley Stadium, and Pink Floyd’s electrifying performance of probably their best album, ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’.

As an added attraction for viewers, the show’s accompanying contests have as prizes the Gibson ‘Epiphone Les Paul’ guitar as well as three-city rock concerts. “This show is one of our most important properties, which is why we have this year broadbased our marketing initiatives through a three-city concert, quizzes, contests and a number of memorabilia for fans,” says the channel’s senior vice-president (content & communication) Rajesh Sheshadri.

The show is aired every Friday at 10:30 pm on Fox History & Entertainment.
