<p>A visiting delegation from Pakistan led by the country’s Chief Election Commissioner Justice Hamid Ali Mirza recently held a meeting with his Indian counterpart S Y Quraishi here and requested him to send a technical team to give a demonstration of the EVMs in their country.<br /><br />“Following the request by Pakistan, the ECI agreed to send a technical team to Pakistan to demonstrate the Indian EVM,” an EC official said.<br /><br />A team from EVM manufacturing companies— BEL and ECIL—will be deputed next month to give demonstration of EVMs in the neighbouring country. “The Pakistan Election Commission is actively considering introduction of EVMs and looking at various options,” the official added.<br /><br />Ethiopia also wants the support of ECI in introducing electronic voting system and also in automation of the country’s electoral rolls. <br /><br />Nepal has requested the ECI for support in further expansion of the EVMs use which have already been introduced in the neighbouring country with Indian support. In a meeting with his Indian counterpart here, Nepalese Chief Election Commissioner Neel Kantha Upreti requested for early signing of MoU in this regard and sought India’s help in drafting electoral laws for his country.<br /><br />The Election Commission of Thailand requested for signing of an MoU with the ECI on election management at the earliest and proposed the participation of election officials from Thailand in the Indian Institute of Democracy and Election Management, to be set up by the ECI here.<br /><br />Delegations from these countries were here to participate in Diamond Jubilee valedictory function organised by the ECI on January 25. <br /><br />After the function, delegations of election management bodies from Bhutan, Afghanistan, Mexico, Uzbekistan, the US and Russia and head of the US based International Foundation for Electoral Systems, too, held separate meetings with the ECI seeking its support and mutual collaboration in electoral management.</p>
