Another name that has been added to this illustrious list, is that of Bangalore girl Nicole Faria, who made the country and the City proud by winning the Miss Earth contest. The tall and dusky Nicole, was back in the City recently and spoke to Metrolife about her life after winning the pageant, being eco-friendly and her future plans.

She talks fondly of the time she spent in Vietnam where the contest was held. “My experience in Vietnam was amazing. I had heard so much about the food and enjoyed it a lot,” she says. “But more than that, there is lot of history to the place which makes it all the more special. The people over there are really beautiful from the heart. Just like Indians,” she adds.

As Miss Earth, Nicole has a huge responsibility on her dainty shoulders. “Being Miss Earth, I am supposed to create awareness in colleges and come up with ways to help save the world. I want to start by cleaning up the lakes of Bangalore and use the umbrella of eco-friendliness for conservation of water. Why not start at home,” she asks. Going green is surely a way of life for this beauty, who has taken her role very seriously. “My work involves everything from helping animals to cutting down on global warming,” she adds.

She informs that she has always been environmentally-conscious and socially active. “I love planting trees. My grandmother used to have a garden and I used to help her out,” she says. “I used to pick up stray puppies and give them a bath. I have always been that sort of a person and the pageant has had an even bigger impact on me,” she adds. She also speaks about the problems that plague her home town — Bangalore. “The traffic and the climate are all inter-related in the City. A family of three has four cars with no place for parking! I think eco-friendly cars are the way to go,” she says.

While she does not divulge too much about future, movies don’t seem to be totally out of the picture. “I am taking one step at a time,” she says. “But language is not something that would hold me back. So I am open to Hollywood, Bollywood and Sandalwood,” she adds. But as of now, she seems to be focussed only on one thing. “Being an ambassador, I want to do more than what any of the previous Miss Earths have done,” she says.
