Official sources told Deccan Herald that the State Cabinet has cleared the MoU between the Government of Israel and Karnataka. Following this, sources said, the State Government has written to Israel’s Office of the Chief Scientist under Moital to visit Bangalore for the signing of the technology transfer MoU.

On behalf of the State Goverment, the state-owned Keonics will enter into the MoU with Moital, which will lay down the broad areas of cooperation between Israel and Karnataka, they added.

The MoU, sources said, will see R&D incubating projects being taken up in the several leading-edge areas of LED, mobile telephony, chip design, software, chip manufacturing, photovoltaic cells, solar cells, and slew of other areas connected with the semiconductor sector.

Industry leader

Israel, which has long been recognised as leader in the semiconductor industry, boasting of over several fab and semiconductor companies, R&D facilities and design centres has a similar MoU signed between the Electronic & Computer Software Council of India and Electronic Industries Association of Israel. Likewise, National Association of Software & Service Companies too has signed an agreement for closer cooperation with its counterpart Israeli Association of Software Houses to exploit the competitive advantages the two countries.

Sources said besides funding, which will see contribution from both sides, the MoU will involve in hand-holding of several projects from incubation stage to their final fruition.
