While students of standard I to VI were having their meals, the dead lizard was found in the plate of Shivaraj, one of the students. He immediately brought it to the notice of the teachers.

Those students who had already eaten the food started vomiting. Soon, the school staff prevented the other students from consuming the food. As soon as news about the incident spread, villagers started gathering in the school, leading to a tense situation. The students of classes VII and VIII were yet to eat the food, thereby preventing a bigger disaster.

First aid given

Members of the school development and management committee (SDMC) pacified the villagers and the students were shifted to the general hospital in the city, in the ambulance of the ‘108’ emergency service. They were given first aid at the hospital and doctors said there was no need to panic. It was confirmed that the food was not poisoned and that the students had vomited out of fear.

SDMC chairman L Somappa said that the incident occurred due to the negligence on the part of the cooks who prepare the mid-day meals. The block development officer would be asked to probe the incident and take action against the guilty.

Sanjeevamurthy, assistant director of Akshara Dasoha, head master Manachari and others were present on the occasion.
