The CBI instead summoned Videocon Industries chairman Venugopal Dhoot and his son Rajkumar to the CBI headquarters to clarify issues relating to the alleged 2G spectrum allocation scam.

The CBI questioned the Dhoots on the 2G spectrum licence as the agency is looking into the funding and transactions of Datacom Services (now Videocon), sources in the CBI said. The Videocon Group holds 64 per cent in the mobile services provider, while Himachal Futuristic promoter Mahendra Nahata has 36 per cent.

The telecos, including Unitech Wireless (rebranded Uninor), Loop Telecom, S Tel, Datacom Services and DB Group-promoted Swan Telecom (now Etisalat DB) have paid Rs 1,658 crore each for pan-India operations.

A total of eight companies who were allotted licences are being investigated by the CBI to track the trail of the money in the 2G spectrum scam which has reportedly caused as much as Rs 1.76 lakh crore revenue loss to the exchequer.

CBI official said Shourie could not come as one of his family members was not well. Shourie had earlier alleged that Union Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal was defending A Raja, ex-telecom minister and accused in the 2G case. The BJP leader also charged his own party with showing disinterest in pursuing the corruption in the 2G spectrum allocation.
