<p>While a group of students of primary and middle school at Kumbarakoppal hold morning prayer, render national and state anthem on the roof of the school building, another group does the same in the veranda and class rooms due to shortage of space. <br />The high school students don’t participate in the prayers as there is no space to accommodate more than 1,300 students in both primary and high school sections. <br />After Ashokpuram Government Primary and High school, this school has the highest number of students. The children belonging to lower strata of the society study in this school.<br /><br />Distributing mid-day meals to students is also a big challenge for the school authorities following lack of space. It takes two hours daily to feed the students. Since International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has been supplying the mid-day meals to the school the teachers are not involved in cooking. The department entrusted the mid-day meal preparation to the ISKCON after understanding the travails of teachers due to lack of space.<br /><br />Hitherto, the students were utilising a piece of land behind the school for extra-curricular and sports activities. The land belonged to the temple trust committee which recently started using the place to hold religious activities. Since then the students do not have playground at all. As per the norms, every government school should have a playground, toilet, library, reading room and other facilities. But for the students of this school, it is a mirage, says Raghu, a resident of Kumbarkoppal.<br /><br />The head of the school expressed his helplessness to train students in sports following absence of playground. The district administration has so far, not thought of shifting the school to another location with all facilities.<br /><br />Corporators Jayaram and K T Chaluvegowda told Deccan Herald that they had made efforts to shift the high school to the composite pre-university college premises in the same area. <br /><br />They have also discussed the matter with the department concerned to solve the problems on priority, they added.</p>
