All flood victims of 2009 disaster to get houses by May: Yeddyurappa
Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today said the nearly 60,000 houses taken up under the ''Aasare'' scheme for the 2009 flood victims would be handed over to the beneficiaries by May this year.
Yeddyurappa said 70 per cent of the 59,212 houses, each on 30 ft by 50 ft site, would be handed over by March. Calling it the "worst flood in a century", he said it had submerged 400 low-lying villages that are now being relocated with construction of these houses at a cost of Rs 1,100 crore.
The Chief Minister was responding to a question from Vasantha Bangera K (Congress) and a supplementary query from T B Jayachandra (Congress) in the Legislative Assembly.
