'Funds meant for SC/STs should reach them'

Deputy Commissioner warns action against GPs diverting funds

Speaking at a district-level vigilance committee meeting on Tuesday, he said few gram panachayats are diverting the funds earmarked for the development of SC/ST to the development of road and other development works. If the district administration receives such complaint, then stringent action will be initiated against the implementation officers, he warned.

Rs 1 crore

He said the government has released a sum of Rs one crore to the development of Valmiki Bhavana in district headquarters. There is scarcity of land in Madikeri. The district administration is searching for suitable land for the construction of the Bhavana, he informed.

Tribal leader J P Raju said “a large number of tribals reside in Virajpet. If Valmiki Bhavana is constructed at Virajpet, it will benefit the people.”

Reacting to it, the DC said that suitable decision will be taken after holding discussion with the elected representatives.

Somwarpet taluk Social Welfare officer said the work on Ambedkar Bhavana is under progress in the taluk. All efforts are being made to mobilise the additional funds.

Virajpet taluk Social Welfare Officer Chennaiah said Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah will lay foundation stone to the Ambedkar Bhavana at the earliest.

Title deeds

Palani Prakash urged the authorities to allot title deeds to the SC/ST who are residing in the district for the last several years.

Zilla Panchayat CEO N Krishnappa said that he will stay at Baligodu Ekalavya Residential School on March 5 to solve the problems in the school.

SP Manjunath Annigeri said the police department will respond to the complaint filed by the SC/STs.
