Minor raped, burnt to death in Tamil Nadu
A seven-year-old girl was raped and gruesomely done to death in Coimbatore. The charred body of the primary school girl, Anusya, was found in thick bushes on the outskirts of Coimbatore.
Police suspect it to be a case of rape followed by murder. It is the second such incident there in four months.
Anusya, daughter of construction worker Govindan, had returned from school and was playing with her elder brother 12-year-old Veeramuthu on Monday evening, police sources said on Wednesday. Her mother was not at home when tragedy struck. The girl, sent to a nearby shop to buy cigarettes for her uncle, had gone missing, police said. Govindan frantically looked for his daughter the whole night and lodged a complaint with the Peelamedu police on Coimbatore ’s outskirts.
Anusya’s body, also mauled by dogs at night, was on Tuesday sent for post-mortem to Government Medical College Hospital in Coimbatore. City Police Commissioner Sylendra Babu told Deccan Herald over the phone on Wednesday that they were zeroing in on a distant uncle of Anusya. He was last seen with the girl before she went missing.
Last October, a similar incident took place in Coimbatore ,when an 11-year-old girl, daughter of a textile merchant, and her brother, were kidnapped while returning from school and killed.
