Thousands of Jats, who have occupied the rail tracks near Kafurpur railway station in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district on the busy Moradabad-Delhi section of the Northern Railway demanding reservation in central government jobs for the past nine days, are being thoroughly entertained by the bar girls. One could see the bar girls gyrating to ‘desi’ songs in front of hundreds of young and old Jats on the platform made just by the side of the rail tracks a few metres away from the station.

The Jats have turned the tracks into makeshift homes and have been cooking and sleeping on them. The Jat women could be seen baking chapatis while the men were puffing away on their hookahs.

They have also tied their livestock with the rail tracks as their agitation entered the ninth day on Sunday.  Some say that the ‘dance and song’ programmes were aimed at entertaining the agitationists, especially the younger lot, who have been there for so many days. “After all, the youngsters need entertainment,” said a Jat youth.

Some others, however, maintain that the bar girls had been brought in to make sure that the agitators did not leave the place and remain there in good strength. One could also hear folk songs being sung by local singers to the tune set by desi musical instruments.
The Jats have renamed the Kafurpur station as Jatpur and have threatened to intensify their agitation if their demands were not conceded by the government. They have also threatened to cut off water supply to Delhi. As the agitation has brought movement of trains on the route to a complete halt, people have been facing a lot of inconvenience. People on Sunday held a demonstration near Moradabad in protest against the Jat agitation.

Threat to cut off water supply
Jats on Sunday threatened to cut off milk and water supply to Delhi if the Central government failed to accept their demand by March 17, reports DHNS from Lucknow. The decision was taken at a ‘mahapanchayat’  of the leaders held at Muradnagar on Sunday. “We will cut off milk and water supply to Delhi if our demands are not met within the next four days,” Manoj Pradhan, a leader said.
