Police said both families were now “talking” and they would initiate action only after a thorough investigation into the allegations.

Actor-politician Chiranjeevi’s second daughter Srija who complained against her husband Sirish Bharadwaj and mother-in-law Suryamani of dowry harassment, told the police that she used to email or send SMS to her father and other relatives whenever she was ill-treated in her in-laws’ place.

According to her Sirish and Suryamani used to beat and kick her. “Once my husband Bhardwaj banged my head against the wall and I sustained a head injury,” Srija said. The mother and son used to keep her baby away from her for days, to force her to get more dowry from her father, she alleged. The investigators are going over documents where she re-registered certain property in her parents’ names to escape from the pressure from her in-laws. The police asked Srija to provide the records of the messages and emails sent to her parents.

No arrests had been made considering that the two families were “talking to each other” to settle the issue amicably, according to a police officer.
