Veterans to act together
Girish Karnad and Shruthi will be seen together in the new film Shabdamani. Directed by Renu Kumar, the movie aims to motivate the youth to join the Army.
While Shruthi will essay the role of a mother of an army officer, Girish Karnad will be seen in the role of a retired army doctor. “The script required mature actors to play the lead roles.
That’s why I decided to approach Shruthi and Girish Karnad. And to my luck after listening to the script, they were really happy to be part of it. In fact, Shruthi feels proud to be associated with a film that deals with soldiers who guard our country,” adds Renu. The film, Renu feels, will stress on the need for aspiring army personnel to be educated. “That way they will be better equipped to handle tricky situations and also move up the cadres.
Education will also enable personnel to understand advance defence technologies and strategies with greater ease,” he explains.
Renu was inspired by people in his own hometown. “Many of my relatives are in army and the pride that the soldiers and their family have is amazing. I hope through this film I can inspire families across the country to encourage at least one child to join the army,” he says.
In this film, apart from direction, Renu has also composed the music. He had earlier composed music for ‘Hori’ and for a Tulu film titled Kanchilda Bale.Currently in the re-recording stage, Renu says that he would like to release the film after the cricket season gets over. He also plans to screen his movie at the film festivals to spread the message.
“Talks are on with various film societies in different countries and hopefully by next month, we will finalise something,” he says.
