Indiranagar may be home to most of the plush, high-end restaurants in the City, but tucked away on a quiet street on 7th main is the small eatery Chakum Chukum, that serves one of the best rolls in the City.
It was started in 2009 by a Chennai-based Bengali couple Sujoy and Arpita. Says Arpita, “When we shifted to Bangalore, we realised that there were not many roll-joints where people could come and chit-chat. So we planned to start this place where people could just come and enjoy themselves.” The place has a very extensive menu offering rolls. There are vegetarian rolls like aloo roll or gobi roll as well as non-vegetarian specialities like the egg roll, chicken roll and mutton roll. Says Arpita, “The best part is we customise rolls for our customers apart from the standard ones that are on the menu. For example, if a person wants to have a chicken roll with aloo, we make it according to his choice.” And one wouldn’t fail to notice that there is a roll on the menu that reads Malav roll that is actually named after a regular customer of this place.
The menu is regularly updated keeping in mind the changing tastes of the customers. But there’s more to this place than just rolls. There are dishes like the Mughlai Paratha which is stuffed paratha with the chicken-egg or mutton-egg combo served with a dip of Aloo Sabzi. On weekends, they serve Mutton Dilkhush that is Laccha Paratha with gravy.
People come to this eatery from places as far as Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Banashankari. Says Gautam, “The mutton they serve here is soft and tender and whenever we wish to eat mutton, we come here.” The eatery doesn’t have any seating arrangement inside the restaurant and instead, there are chairs kept outside.
Moreover, one needn’t worry about the dearth of parking facility, which is a major concern in Indiranagar, as there is lot of space available near the restaurant.
