Dawood aide acquitted for want of evidence

Fazl-ur-Rahman, who was languishing in the Tihar Jail, was specially brought to Darbhanga (in North Bihar) where he was produced in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Jitendra Kumar.

Fazl-ur-Rahman was charged with abducting  Muzaffarpur-based prominent businessman Amarendra Singh. The judge, however, let off the don for want of evidence. Fazl-ur-Rahman was eventually taken back to Tihar by a Delhi police team on Saturday. Fazl-ur-Rahman, who was also close to dreaded gangster Babloo Srivastava, was in the news when Interpol issued red corner notices for him for his involvement in extortion, murder, hawala transactions and kidnapping for ransom.

One of the world’s most feared don, Fazl-ur-Rahman’s name figured in the abduction of all high and mighty, be it the owner of Pan Parag, Hayatt Regency or the Adani group of industries.

Bollywood link

Fazl-ur-Rahman had also struck a deal with a top Bollywood actor, who reportedly used him to browbeat the owner of Praful Sarees for not paying her Rs 2 crore for an advertisement.

Born in a family living in abject poverty in Darbhanga, Fazl-ur-Rahman entered the big bad world of crime when he kidnapped a minor girl, Noor Afsan, in Darbhanga in 1988.

Since then there has been no looking back for this underworld don who widened his base in other states when Dawood, Babloo and Chota Rajan were busy fighting against one another.

The Bihar-born don operated from Dubai, Malaysia, Singapore and Nepal before being arrested.

Fear factor

* Fazlu took to crime when he kidnapped a minor girl, Noor Afsan, in Darbhanga in 1988.

* In 1997, he kidnapped Gautam Adani, owner of Adani group of industries from Ahmedabad. Gautam was released after allegedly paying Rs 15 crore as ransom.

* An year earlier, Fazlu had kidnapped the owner of a seven-star hotel.

*  The underworld don hogged the limelight again when a top Bollywood actress reportedly asked him to threaten the owner of Praful Sarees for not paying her Rs 2 crore for an advertisement.

* Earlier, Fazlu had also abducted Sanjay Aggarwal, the owner of Pan Parag.
