A team led by Gangadharappa, Lokayukta Deputy Superintendent of Police and Shashidhar, Channagiri Range Deputy Conservator of Forests, raided the government quarters of S Murugan, Deputy Inspector General of Police of the CID, on Wednesday night, following complaints that timber had been illegally stored in his house.

Following complaints received from the public, the inspection was conducted with the co-operation of Shashidhar.

More than two lorry loads of ‘nandi,’ ‘honne’ and ‘beete’ wood had been stored in the shed beside Murugan’s house. The inspection will take place throughout the night and is expected to conclude in the morning.

Certain licences need to be procured to stock the wood and the forest department officials are presently doing the job of cross-checking these licences.

Murugan, who was the Shimoga district Superintendent of Police had only recently been promoted as the DIGP.

The investigation team is said to have received information that Murugan had used the wood from Shimoga to construct his house in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, his native.
