But the Punjab left-hander answered his critics and erased some self-doubts with a forceful effort in the World Cup, leading India to the podium after 28 years with a stirring all-round effort. He has scored 362 runs and taken 15 wickets to have a major impact in men in blue’s campaign in the tournament.

It was the kind of Yuvraj Singh that everyone wanted to see, a storm with the bat, a canny customer with the ball and a livewire on the field. A fit and firing Yuvraj is an immense to the team and he underscored the fact in a stirring fashion in the event.

“I was really not in great form coming into the tournament. Nothing was really going for me prior to the World Cup and I was thinking about the spate of injuries that I suffered during the past one year. But in the World Cup everything fell in place for me, batting, bowling and fielding,” Yuvraj said after bagging Man of the Tournament award.

Throughout the tournament Yuvraj was keen to contribute to team’s success in all the way possible and there was no letting loose of intensity even for a day. Yuvraj was charged up in the title clash against Sri Lanka and he prowled around the point area like an angry tiger, showing excellent athleticism to cut off a few certain boundaries that put a lot of pressure on Lankan batsmen.

“I am very happy with the way I fielded and bowled in the tournament and hopefully I can continue during the coming months as well,” Yuvraj said.

But for any turnaround you need a strand of inspiration and Yuvraj too needed that. The southpaw discovered that in Sachin Tendulkar and he was not hesitant to devote the performance to the batting master whom he rated as a “special person.”

“To begin with I am sorry to disappoint you all. The special person is not a girlfriend or anyone. But it is Sachin Tendulkar. All through the tournament I wanted to win it for him because what he has given to Indian cricket nobody has. The things he has achieved is remarkable. I always prayed to the Almighty that you should give it to him before he retires,” Yuvraj said.

He indeed accomplished the task in an emphatic manner and just like the person from whom he draws inspiration Yuvraj too should gun for longer and successful years at topflight cricket. It’s a task well within his reach and he showed that in the World Cup.
