Repolling peaceful in Tamil Nadu
As re-polling in eight polling stations in six Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu passed off peacefully on Saturday, the record overall poll percentage of 78.12 per cent for the State in the April 13 polls has triggered a debate on who it will benefit more.
Re-polling in the constituencies of Arni, Neyveli, Thiruvidaimarudhur, Bodinayakanur, Sankarankovil and Killiyur passed off peacefully on Saturday.
Both the ruling DMK-led front and the AIADMK-led front are keeping their fingers crossed with each claiming benefit from the high voting percentage.
The massive turnout across the state was a “reflection of the people’s anger against the DMK,” remarked the AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa, who sees a landslide victory for her front.
But DMK circles claim it as a plus for their savvy political mobilization and are also hopeful of a comfortable win.
Another interesting facet that has come out of the EC’s figures released Saturday is that due to increased awareness among the electorate, another record 24,824 voters have exercised the ‘49(O) Option’ under the ‘Conduct of Election Rules, 1961’, wherein each of them make an entry in their respective polling station registering their “refusal to vote”.
