Tendulkar cancels birthday celebrations, prays for Sai Baba

Sachin has also cancelled his 39th birthday celebrations with family and friends scheduled at a hotel here on Sunday. He is in the city to play the IPL-4 match against home team Deccan Chargers on Sunday evening.

In his Twitter remark Sachin, an ardent devotee of Sathya Sai  Baba said he was not in a mood to celebrate his birthday when Sai Baba was in sickbed. “I am praying for his speedy recovery and good health and appeal to my well-wishers to do the same” he tweeted.

Officials of Prashanti Nilayam at Puttaparthi said Sachin had been calling them every day to enquire about Sai Baba’s health condition. “He would come to Puttaparthi but for his commitments to IPL,” said a senior official of Sal Trust. Baba devotees, Sunil Gavaskar and V V S Lakshman, have also enquired with the Saibaba Ashram at Puttaparthi and offered their prayers for his speedy recovery. Both of them are likely to visit the pilgrim town shortly.The ashram authorities said they had received enquiries from several cricketers like Kapil Dev, Saurav Ganguly and several Australian, West Indian and Sri Lankan cricketers who are all Sai Baba’s ardent devotees.
