BU to help visually challenged students

Last Updated 24 April 2011, 19:04 IST

The students will now be given an extra hour to write examinations and a graduate scribe. In addition, a green sticker will be glued on their answer books in order to help evaluators identify such students.

Text-books and other reading materials provided to the students will be in Braille. A special library will be set up for them. The University will also purchase equipment that will scan and convert reading material from ordinary font to Braille.

Also, the question-papers for the students will have more of theory-type questions instead of those requiring graphic representations, especially in subjects like mathematics, statistics and geography.

Gautam Agarwal, president of the National Federation of the Blind, Prasanna Udipikar, assistant professor, VVN Degree College, Basavanagudi, Dr Shivaprasad Reddy of Minto Hospital and BU Registrar and Registrar (Evaluation) were present at the meeting. A committee has been set up to implement the programme.
