Stone pelting causing losses to Kashmiris, says Geelani

Srinagar, Apr 29 (PTI)

Hardline Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani today said stone pelting incidents in Jammu and Kashmir caused losses only to the people of the state.

"I dont want to drag myself into the debate whether stone-pelting is right or not, but I understand that it has caused more harm to us...," Geelani said addressing a gathering in north Kashmir's Bandipora district.

He said stone pelting is a "business of loss" for Kashmiri people. At the height of the summer unrest last year, Geelani had appealed for calm when youths went on a rampage and burned government buildings and police stations in the state.

Geelani's statement comes a day after a driver succumbed to his injuries sustained during the stone pelting in Azad Gunj area of Baramulla district last week while he was ferrying polling staff.

On the role of interlocutors preparing a roadmap for solution of Kashmir issue, the separatist leader said that there is no need for a new roadmap for the solution of the Kashmir issue."A clear roadmap already exists for resolution of Kashmir issue," he said without elaborating on it.
