Special Judge Dharmesh Sharma took into account the CBI’s plea that since witnesses were still to be examined the accused should be remanded in judicial custody.

The court remanded Kalmadi, organising committee’s joint director general sport, A S V Prasad and deputy director general procurement Surjit Lal to Tihar jail here till May 18.

All the three accused were produced in the court after the end of their eight days of CBI custody. They were arrested on April 25 for awarding contract to the Swiss firm for Timing-Scoring-Result (TSR) system for the mega sporting event last year causing allegedly a loss of Rs 95 crore to the exchequer.

During the hearing, the court did not allow a plea of Kalmadi’s advocate Amit Desai who opposed CBI’s application seeking direction to send the accused to judicial custody.|

Kalmadi and two others are facing charges of cheating, forgery and various offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act in the case registered on November 29, last year.
