The dead is Ambika (56), wife of Gangadharaiah, a retired BMTC ticket collector and resident of Turuvekere. The couple have two sons – Jaishankar, a BMTC driver and Girish, a marketing executive.
Police said Ambika was against Jaishankar’s marriage with a distant relative and had allegedly attempted suicide a few months ago. The elder members of the family had consoled her and the marriage was scheduled to be held in the third week of May.
When the sons returned home on Thursday night, Ambika was found hanging from the ceiling fan, the police said.
