8 killed in two separate accidents

Kumta/Hubli, May 24, DHNS:

Eight persons were killed in two separate road mishaps in North Karnataka on Tuesday.

On National Highway 17 near Handigon in Kumta taluk of Uttara Kannada district, five persons of a family were killed, and three others were injured and a one-year-old boy survived, when a lorry loaded with fish turned turtle and fell on a car.

Bhatkal-based Tanzim organisation President Badrul Hasan (78), Aslam Gavay (35), Tarannum (32), and Jiya Salim Afiska (35) were killed on the spot, while Mubina (22) died on the way to hospital. All of them were from Bhatkal, and were travelling in a car.

Arakan (27), Jufra (17) and car driver Salman (28) were severely injured in the accident, and admitted to a hospital at Manipal.

Miraculous escape

One-year-old Asil miraculously survived in the accident.  The car was heading towards Dandeli, while the lorry was coming from Gujarat.

3 killed

Three persons were killed when a car hit a NWKRTC bus near Palikoppa Cross on Pune-Bangalore Road near Hubli on Tuesday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Shahida Riyaz Ahmed Chandshah (32) of Bhatkal, Yallappa Hosmani of Hangal (35), and Mohammed Hussain Hangal (35).

Railway employee Khasimsab Matagar of Hubli, who was driving the car, was seriously injured, and was admitted to a private hospital. Shahida’s children Musharaff and Nihal, and Jasrin Jahagirdar of Tippu Nagar in Hubli were also injured, and they were admitted to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Hubli.

The bus was heading towards Kalghatagi via Palikoppa, and the car was coming from Haveri to Hubli. A case has been registered with Hubli Rural Police Station.
