Kundamestri project to be ready by 18 months
Govt will provide suitable compensation to land losers, says Bopaiah
The ambitious Kundamestri water project which will provide drinking water to Madikeri will be completed within one-and-half years, said Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah.
Speaking after inspecting the work on Kundamestri, he directed the Karnataka State Water Supply Board Engineers to complete the work within one-and-half years.
With the completion of check dam, owing to backwater, about 35 to 38 acre land along with one house will be inundated. The government will provide suitable compensation to the owners, he informed.
He said the government land will be given to those who lost land for dam. There is no shortage of funds for completing the project. The project may cost Rs 30 crore. A 80 metre wide and 18 metre height check dam will be constructed.
“By storing water in the checkdam, water will be supplied to Madikeri town for three months. As Madikeri and surrounding region receive rainfall, Kootuhole will get water during monsoon. Hence, there will be no shortage of water,” said Bopaiah.
MLA Appachu Ranjan said “after constructing check dam, 9.5 million litre water will be stored. Madikeri town requires 4.5 million litre water daily.”
In-charge Deputy Commissioner K M Chandre Gowda, AC Dr M R Ravi, CMC Commissioner Shashikumar and others were present.
