Merits of unadulterated milk stressed
Celebrating abundance: World Dairy Farming Day observed
Kolar-Chikkaballapur Milk Union Limited (Komul) director K Gudiyappa said the organisation will soon come out with a means to preserve milk in a flexi-pack for up to 30 days.
He was speaking after distributing milk among patients at the Shidlaghatta Government Public Hospital on Wednesday as observation of the World Dairy Farming Day.
New technique
Gudiyappa informed that a mega dairy with modern technology to pack milk is being constructed at Nandi at an expenditure of Rs 55 crore.
“The new method of packing will help us sell milk to various states,” he added.
In addition to the current export in tetra pack, milk is also supplied to the Ministry of Defence, he said.
The two-rupee subsidiary per litre, provided by the Government, is helping the milk producers. Shidlaghatta taluk is getting up to Rs 1.54 crore subsidiary every month,
the director said.
Production
Kolar and Chikkaballapur district have a combined production of seven-and-a-half lakh litres of milk, “which is second best in the State,” informed Gudiyappa.
“Shidlaghatta taluk has 182 milk producers’ cooperative societies. Of these, 16 are women’s organisations,” he added.
Milk Union deputy director Ishwaraiah, who spoke on the occasion, said, “Chemically-treated milk will no doubt survive for longer, but is obviously not safe from the health point of view. In contrast, Nandini milk is devoid of any bacteria, but full of vitamins.”
Ishwaraiah added that every child should get up to at least 250 mililitres of milk every day to remain healthy.
Dr Vijaya, Milk Union assistant managers Dr Madhava, Hanumantha Rao and Narasimhamurthy, extension officers K N B Reddy, Gopalakrishna, marketing officer V Prakash, Kummanna and others were present on the occasion.
