Bosch plans to invest Rs 2,500 crore
Global automotive and engineering technology giant Bosch on Thursday, announced a planned investment of Rs 2,500 crore over the next two years to augment its production capacity, business portfolio diversification and research and development in India.
“Of the total investment planned by the group in India, Rs 1,300 crore will be invested by our flagship company Bosch Ltd to set up a greenfield facility in Chennai to manufacture electrical drives for the domestic market by 2012,” Bosch Automotive Group Chairman Dr.Bernd Bohr said.
The plant will produce Wiper systems, Engine cooling fan modules, HVAC blowers and Window lift drives products, etc.
To be built on a total area of 9,000 Sq. m with an investment of Rs 370 million and equipped with state of the art technology the new Chennai plant will aim at increased localisation of production.
This facility will cater to the growing needs of the Indian market. Another significant activity by the Bosch Group in India pertains to software engineering and support for global power train electronics development for gasoline and diesel engines along with hybrid and electric vehicles.
Head count
The project looks into the global challenges of CO2 emission reduction in power train electronics and Bosch would employ over 800 engineers in Bangalore and Coimbatore. By 2013, Bosch expects to employ some 28,000 people in India. A large proportion of the investment would also be used for new products for growing and unique Indian market needs.
Commonrail system
Bosch in India is also working on a common rail injection system for low-priced vehicle segment and on innovative solutions for tractors. Start-stop systems and low cost ABS for 2-wheelers, which form a very significant portion of private transport in India, are some of the other near future offerings from Bosch.
Bohr said “The highly encouraging performance of Bosch in India adds another highlight to the global celebration of 125th anniversary of Bosch this year. With a turnover of Rs 9,270 crore, the Bosch Group in India has seen 36 per cent growth in 2010 over the past year.”
Bohr also announced grant of Rs 140 crore for “Bosch InterCampus programme” with IISc in Bangalore for Research in Cyber Physical Systems.
