Sudeep is known to don different hats in reel life. But now he’s all set to don the role of captain for real. He’s going to be leading a team of enthusiastic young men of ‘Karnataka Bulldozers’ for the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL), slated to be held in the City on June 4. And looks like Sudeep has taken his role and responsibility very seriously.

The confident captain is hopeful about the success of the new format of the game. In a chat with Metrolife, Sudeep talks about the practice sessions, mode of preparation and the strength of the team.“As a team, our aim is to play a decent game and maintain discipline and dignity of the Kannada film industry as we are representing the industry. All of us have the feeling of winning the game,” he says.

Ask him why he was chosen as the captain and he says, “It could be because of my ‘angry young man’ image in the industry. Even in making films, I am known for my discipline. I guess that fear factor works here.” He adds, “I used to play cricket during my college days. That experience has now come in handy.” He says that all the team members were selected based on their performance, not on their stardom.

The team has been practising hard at Palace Grounds for the last one and a half months. “Actually, we started practising in November because the CCL was supposed to take place in January. As it was rescheduled to June, we stopped in between and resumed practice a month and half back. It’s not just playing with a bat and ball. We have attained good fitness and energy levels, thanks to our coach, trainer and a physiotherapist.
Players are feeling good about themselves and have gained confidence. Our coach G K Anil Kumar, an ex-Ranji cricketer, is responsible for making us fit. A couple of professional players witnessed our practice sessions and gave some tips,” he says.

He feels that discipline is what binds the team. “Irrespective of the time we go to sleep, all the guys wake up at 4.30 in the morning and assemble at the ground at sharp 6 for practice. Nobody wants to miss it,” he says. The practice session is held for more than three hours every day.

However, Sudeep says that these practice sessions haven’t affected his lifestyle. “My life has always been the same. My wake up and sleeping timings were same earlier also. But, it has definitely affected the life of a few players and newcomers who used to party and had gala time so far. They have a disciplined routine now and I am sure they are going to miss the CCL once it’s over,” he remarks.
