CIIL: Understanding of concept stressed
Central Institute of Indian Languages Director Prof Rajesh Sachdeva said that for achieving something in testing, a deeper understanding of the concept is very important.
Speaking at the valedictory of 21-day training cum workshop on Applied Linguistics, Testing and Evaluation for the guest lecturers and resource persons of seven Regional Laguage Centres of CIIL here, he wanted that the first priority of National Testing Service-India of CIIL should be serving the public and the nation for a better quality of examination and evaluation system. He also recalled the visit of UPSC dignitaries to CIIL and their appreciation towards the activities and the materials of NTS-I.
Dr PP Giridhar, Assistant Director (Admin.) in his presidential remark said that this training cum workshop of NTS-I was indeed a great forum for the scholars for discussing about the aspects of language and literature of the Indian languages in general and teaching, learning, testing and evaluation in particular.
Mission statement
The objective behind the organisation of this programme was to achieve the mission statement of the NTS-India to evolve a centralized mechanism to cater to the testing and evaluation requirements of the country and also for the development of methodology, material and manpower in the area.
The NTS-I has taken various activities to promote its mission through out the country. In this connection for the first time, the NTS has organised this training cum workshop to train those academics engaged in teaching and research of Indian Languages in the RLCs of CIIL and in the NTS-I for expanding its activities in all the Indian languages. It is also planning to conduct intensive programmes for question item preparation exclusively in all the RLCs of CIIL.
Participants
More than 90 participants who are involved in the teaching & research activities on Indian Languages from the following institutions of CIIL viz., Northern Regional Language Centre, Patiala, Punjab; Western Regional Language Centre, Pune, Maharashtra; Eastern Regional Language Centre, Bhubaneswar, Orissa; North Eastern Regional Language Centre, Guwahati, Assam; Urdu Teaching and Research Centre, Solan, Himachal Pradesh and Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and research scholars of various universities of India and academics staff of NTS-I participated in the programme.
Eminent scholars
Besides the scholar from the CIIL, several eminent scholars including Prof Jacob Tharu, formerly of CIEFL, Hyderabad; Prof Pon Subbiah, former Head of NTS-I, CIIL, Mysore; Prof Rathnasabapathy, TIERA, Chennai; Prof Dorasami, Principal, RIE, Mysore; Prof A S. Dasan, University of Mysore; Prof J C Sharma, Dr K V V L Narashimha Rao, Dr N Nadaraja Pillai, formerly of CIIL Mysore; Prof Adithi Mukherjee, Director, NTM, CIIL and Dr Sampath Former Director of Epigraphy department, ASI have delivered lectures in this programme.
